watering

Daylilies (Hemerocallis 'Chablis Blanc') are very resilient and require minimal maintenance. They will benefit from weekly watering when the soil is dry. During the hot summer months, water the daylilies every day for optimal growth. Be sure to provide at least 1–2" of water each time to ensure the soil is well-saturated. Be sure to avoid over-watering, as this may cause the roots to rot. During the cooler months, water the daylily less frequently. Allowing the soil to dry out between waterings is encouraged as daylilies are tolerant of dry soils.

sunlight

Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Chablis Blanc') require moderate amounts of sunlight to grow and perform best. These plants thrive in an environment with 5 to 6 hours of sunlight per day; however, more than 6 hours can lead to scorching of the leaves. In full sun, daylilies should not be exposed to direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day, typically mid-day during the summer months. Instead, it is best to provide either morning sun or afternoon sun, making sure to provide ample shade during the hottest hours of the day. In areas with intense midday sun, it is always best to try and find a partially shaded area for the plant. Additionally, in regions with very hot summers, some shade is recommended for daylilies throughout the day, helping to keep them cool and reduce the risk of burning.

pruning

Daylilies should be trimmed on an annual basis, usually in spring before any new growth occurs. Cut back the foliage of the daylily to no more than 6 inches high. This will allow for better air circulation around the plant and reduce the chance of diseases such as rust. It also helps to thin out some of the blades so the daylily isn’t too dense. Additionally, you can remove any dead leaves, stalks, or flowers from the previous season. Prune away any thin, weak, or damaged foliage. Finally, remove any flower seed heads from the daylily, as this can detract from the flowering potential of the next season’s blooms.
